The Mentor Senior Center offers a variety of fitness classes to meet the needs of every member.  Classes are designed for men and women ages 55 and better, all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.

A wide variety of Silver Sneakers classes are available including Classic, Circuit, Enerchi, Stability, Yoga, Boom Move, and Boom Muscle. These classes are free for Silver Sneakers members, but registration is required to ensure we have enough space. We offer  additional variety with Country Heat, Low Impact Aerobics, Line Dancing, Stretch and Balance, and Yoga. We also offer water exercise classes at the Mentor Community Recreation Center.

Senior Center Fitness Center

We have a wonderful fitness center with a variety of cardiovascular equipment including 5 treadmills, a recumbent bike, 3 seated ellipticals, 2 standing ellipticals, a Cybex Arc trainer and a NuStep. The Tuff Stuff strength station offers a wide variety of exercises and the Precor stretch trainer offers great stretching options.  You must be 55 years or older, a member of the senior center and must take the Fitness Orientation training class to participate in the fitness center. Personal training sessions are also available at an additional fee.

Stop by for the best deal in town! Mentor Senior Center’s talented kitchen staff and volunteers prepare delicious, freshly made entrees, sandwiches, salads, soup, and desserts at reasonable prices.  Lunch foods are planned for the enjoyment of seniors of all ages.

A daily cook’s special features a meat or other high protein dish, vegetable, and usually a starch or bread product at a cost of $5. There is also a daily homemade soup and a variety of sandwiches. Desserts range from fruit pies to special homemade treats. Drinks include coffee, tea, milk, and soda.  The monthly menu is available at the Senior Center front desk, in the monthly newsletter and online at www.cityofmentor.com.

Reservations are not required (except for monthly celebrations and special luncheons). Simply place your order and pay the cashier, pick up your meal at the kitchen window and enjoy. To go orders are also available. Mentor Senior Center membership is not required. Please bus your table when done eating.

Advance reservations are required at least one week prior to these special luncheons. The meal is served 11:30 – 12:00 and entertainment performs from 12:00 – 1:00

Mentor Senior Center Trips

The Senior Center has an extensive travel program for seniors that like to travel but don’t enjoy all the planning that comes with it. We work with local tour operators to plan trips designed for seniors, combined we have over 90 years of travel experience. Each year we plan over 75 trips – from lunch trips, to day trips, to local trips and overnight trips to exciting destinations.  Due to the complexity of trip registration that may include seat and room assignments, you must call the Senior Center at 440-974-5725 to register.

The Mentor Senior Center has support groups for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and seniors who suffer from vision impairment. There is also a monthly produce distribution along with hearing screenings.

The Special Elders Program gives seniors the support and assistance they need to more fully participate in Senior Center recreation activities and in establishing the best possible quality of life as they age in a safe, welcoming, and supportive social environment.

The program is intended to assist participants in small ways to enhance their enjoyment of the Senior Center.  This may include assistance getting lunch; help determining appropriate activities such as fitness classes, memory classes, art classes and bingo; and directions to peer social groups and activities.

The Special Elders program takes place 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at the Mentor Senior Center. The program is funded jointly by federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, the City of Mentor, and Lake County Senior Levy Funds. Transportation is available to and from the center through Laketran.

The Special Elders staff does not provide personal care or individual supervision. Participants in Special Elders must be independently mobile. NOTE: This is not an Adult Day Care Program.

Guardians Opening Day Party

Every spring we celebrate opening day.  Enjoy the home opener on the big screen while enjoying ballpark favorites like hot dogs, cracker jacks, popcorn, ice cream, peanuts, and more.

Musical Performances

The Senior Center Stage is the perfect venue for a wide variety of talented musicians.  Some of our favorite acts include the Chardon Polka Band, Jersey Beats, and the Hillcrest Concert Band.

Garage Sale

Every April, we turn the Senior Center into one of the biggest garage sales in Lake County.  Featuring over 75 vendors, there is something for everyone.

Arts and Crafts Sale

Just in time for the holidays, the Arts and Crafts Sale has all kinds of wonderful gift ideas from over 75 talented vendors.

Line Dance Party

Grab you dancing shoes, or boots, and join our line dance instructors for a fun night dancing to your favorite tunes.

Chili Cook-off

The fall is a great time to warm up with a bowl of chili.  Sponsored by the Association of Specialists in Aging (ASA), the chili cook-off provides chili, salads, rolls, dessert and drinks.  Awards given to the best chili – one for People’s Choice and one for Judge’s Choice.
